Half Hour of Power Hiatus

Greetings, chiptune fans!

The Half Hour of Power show will be on a three week hiatus due to travel.  The next show will air on June 27th.  I will try to set up some scheduled streams of old episodes on June 6th, 13th and 20th, but I can’t guarantee these will work.   If they don’t work, you can always listen from the archives!

Something Blue – Everlasting – Friday, May 25 at 20:00 UDT

I will be running the show manually this week and it will be my first time so hopefully there will be a minimal amount of glitches. This weeks show is called Everlasting featuring Dave Koz, Charlie Wood, Lee Konitz, Kenny Wheeler, and Sean Jones. So, jazz. It’s all good but I am particularly knocked out by Lee Konitz with the Kenny Wheeler Quartet recorded in 1999 and rereleased in 2016, from the “Olden Times” CD. For more about the show visit the Something Blue website at http://sbblues.com.

Continuing the “artist of the week” theme, tonight’s show was dedicated to the music of Czech chiptune artist Factor 6, a member of the excellent AY Riders and YM Digital  bands who also does solo work under the alternative name Akio Tenshi.  Like Yerz, Factor 6 is a talented “multi-instrumentalist”, and this show features AY and SID tunes, Amiga MODs and a 1-bit track.

  1. Akio Tenshi – Distant Space Signals
  2. Factor 6 – AdraSTea Orbit (from YM Digital Album Spontaneous Compression)
  3. Factor 6 – Thirty-One (from 1-bit Wizards album The Journey Begins)
  4. Factor 6 – External Turnouts
  5. Factor 6 – Funky Symptom
  6. Akio Tenshi – On da Moov
  7. Akio Tenshi – Lost Friend
  8. Akio Tenshi – Summer Memories

Tonight was (already!) the second Yerzmyey night, hot on the heels of last week.   This time I focused on Yerz’s more unconventional or experimental output, featuring a song made on a Raspberry Pi (RPi Zwei), a song made on two synchronised ZX Spectrums, one using an AY sound chip and one using the beeper (Proof of Concept), and a song made on a ZX Spectrum but heavily post-processed using filters, phasers, phlangers, delays, reverbs and more to lend the sound of “Berlin School” electronica (Unknown Radiation Spectrum).  Yerz is certainly not a one-trick pony.

  1. Yerzmyey – Ambiental
  2. Yerzmyey – Proof of Concept (from album Astral Combat)
  3. Yerzmyey – Chouyaku (from album Microsongs)
  4. Yerzmyey – Death Squad (from album Deathsquad)
  5. Yerzmyey – Weird (from album Freakuencies)
  6. Yerzmyey – Industrial Fucking Part 5 (from album Astral Combat)
  7. Yerzmyey – RPi Zwei (from album RPi Zwei)
  8. Yerzmyey – Mission Highly Improbable Part 1 (from album Mission Highly Improbable)
  9. Yerzmyey – Mission Highly Improbable Part 2 (from album Mission Highly Improbable)
  10. Yerzmyey – Unknown Radiation Spectrum (from album Strange Light Under My Bed)

Tonight was the first ever Yerz Night (yes, there will be more)!  All tracks are by my favourite chiptune artist Yerzmyey, a talented and innovative dude who has been rocking beeps since 1989, has started two chiptune bands (AY Riders and YM Digital) and has played live at major chiptune events in Japan and the US!

  1. Yerzmyey – Where is Love? (from album Ye Olde Square)
  2. Yerzmyey – Break Space (from album ZX 81)
  3. Yerzmyey – Arcane Zone (from album RetroBeat)
  4. Yerzmyey – XL Dance (from album XL Digital)
  5. Yerzmyey – Time Machine II (from album aTTraction)
  6. Yerzmyey – Trackers Forever! (from album Oldschool MODe)
  7. Yerzmyey – 5th Channel (from album Interphase)
  8. Yerzmyey – Haunted Mansion (from album Brutal and Aggressive)
  9. Yerzmyey – Jigoku no sanba (from album Microsongs – sadly faded out before end!)

I was short of time and a little lazy this week, so most of tonight’s show was one epic 22 minute track from Stig’s amazing album Velocity!  The album only has two tracks, and the other one goes for even longer at 27 minutes!  If you liked what you heard tonight, please consider buying the album to complete the experience.

  1. Stig – Velocity, part one
  2. Mister Beep – Slowing Down the Chaos
  3. Irrlicht Project – Meta-ls
