The Half Hour of Power show will be on a three week hiatus due to travel. The next show will air on June 27th. I will try to set up some scheduled streams of old episodes on June 6th, 13th and 20th, but I can’t guarantee these will work. If they don’t work, you can always listen from the archives!
Let us all give a warm welcome to our new DJ, Hairy Larry (SDF member ‘hairylarry’), and his show “Something Blue”! This show will feature blues, jazz and other American roots music as played by musicians all over the world. There is a focus on live music and the show also includes production music recorded for “Something Blue” in Northeast Arkansas.
“Something Blue” with Hairy Larry livestreams every Friday, 20:00-21:00 UTC (4-5PM EDT/1-2PM PDT/9-10PM BST/10-11PM CEST).
“Something Blue” will debut on aNONradio.net this coming Friday, May 25th so please show your support by tuning in!
Continuing the “artist of the week” theme, tonight’s show was dedicated to the music of Czech chiptune artist Factor 6, a member of the excellent AY Riders and YM Digital bands who also does solo work under the alternative name Akio Tenshi. Like Yerz, Factor 6 is a talented “multi-instrumentalist”, and this show features AY and SID tunes, Amiga MODs and a 1-bit track.
Tonight was (already!) the second Yerzmyey night, hot on the heels of last week. This time I focused on Yerz’s more unconventional or experimental output, featuring a song made on a Raspberry Pi (RPi Zwei), a song made on two synchronised ZX Spectrums, one using an AY sound chip and one using the beeper (Proof of Concept), and a song made on a ZX Spectrum but heavily post-processed using filters, phasers, phlangers, delays, reverbs and more to lend the sound of “Berlin School” electronica (Unknown Radiation Spectrum). Yerz is certainly not a one-trick pony.
Tonight was the first ever Yerz Night (yes, there will be more)! All tracks are by my favourite chiptune artist Yerzmyey, a talented and innovative dude who has been rocking beeps since 1989, has started two chiptune bands (AY Riders and YM Digital) and has played live at major chiptune events in Japan and the US!
I was short of time and a little lazy this week, so most of tonight’s show was one epic 22 minute track from Stig’s amazing album Velocity! The album only has two tracks, and the other one goes for even longer at 27 minutes! If you liked what you heard tonight, please consider buying the album to complete the experience.
Tonight’s first track was powerfully low-fi 1-bit ZX Spectrum music, to make up for the heresy of last week’s analogue instruments! The second half of the show features two consecutive tracks from Disasterpeace’s concept album Level, which is “the narrative of an uphill battle, increasingly difficult and complex as it progresses, told through the sounds of the 8-bit electronic medium”. If you liked levels 3 and 4, buy the album to enjoy the full eight level journey!
