The idea of the show, called Peripheral Vision, would be to provide
an intro to the UK ambient electronica scene, with a focus on the group of
sonic collagists associated with the Ghostbox label – Position
Normal, Belbury Poly, The Advisory Circle, The Focus Group, The Caretaker,
John Foxx, et al. – and their sound sources: the BBC Radiophonic Workshop,
1970s TV incidental music, advertising jingles, public information films,
station idents, and so on. The frame of reference is admittedly British,
but that’s where I grew up, even though I’ve lived in the U.S. for the
past three decades, so the music still resonates with me.
